Salad ShooterStraight from from the bar at the Hugo, the Salad Shooter is a whimsical and refreshing take on the mojito, using vodka instead of rum. Known by the bar staff at Hugo as the “Mrs. Wormer,” in honor of the classic movie National Lampoon’s Animal House (Marion Wormer was the dipsomaniac wife of Faber College Dean, Vernon Wormer – late in the movie she succumbs to Eric “Otter” Stratton’s charms).

This recipe was featured in the EQ at the Party Source podcast, Southern Comfort at Hugo.

Hugo Lounge

This week we sat down with HUGO bartender, Brian Mulroy, to learn how to make some of this Oakley eatery’s signature summer drinks.

HUGOLocated in the former Pho Paris location in Oakley, HUGO has transformed the space into a sophisticated, but comfortable setting for Sean Daley’s fusion of southern and cosmopolitan cuisine. Chef Daley will be a guest instructor at EQ at the Party Source later this summer so lets get back to what we came here for – the drinks! The lounge at Hugo offers a wonderful selection of wine and beer, but the real stars are the cocktails on their “muddling menu.” So grab your muddler (or your wooden spoon) and let’s get mixing.

Brian showed us how to make two of their signature drinks – the Kurious Orange and the Salad Shooter – but he also shared the recipe for one of their spicier drinks, the HUGO Heater (not shown in the podcast).

You can purchase all of the ingredients for making these great summer drinks at the Party Source, but if you’d like to have a professional like Brian muddle these drinks for you, jump in your jalopy and head over to HUGO!
